How often to post shorts, and what daily actually buys you
The standard advice is to post every day. That advice is correct. The reasoning usually attached to it is not, and believing the wrong reason leads people to scale the wrong thing.
What volume actually buys
Volume is not a favour you do the algorithm. It buys two concrete things:
- Sample size. Twenty videos is roughly where patterns become readable. Posting weekly means five months before you know anything.
- Lottery tickets. Short-form distribution is high variance. One video can massively outperform and you cannot predict which.
Both are arguments for daily. Twenty videos at one a day is three weeks; at two a week it is two and a half months of learning nothing. What neither buys you is a rescue for a format that does not work - publishing a failing format faster just reaches the same conclusion sooner.
The honest sequence
- Weeks 1 to 3: one a day, one niche, one format. You are gathering data, not growing.
- Week 4: read retention. Keep what held, cut what did not.
- After that: increase volume only on the format that worked.
Scaling before that point multiplies a format you have not validated. That is the actual mistake, not the frequency.
Spacing matters more than count
Publishing five videos at once tends to underperform publishing five spaced across a day. They compete for the same initial audience, and a feed rarely shows one account repeatedly in a short window.
If you generate in batches, schedule the posts apart. An hour or two between them is usually enough.
Multiple accounts
Running several channels in one niche is a reasonable way to increase surface area, but only once you have a format that works. Three channels posting a format that does not land is three times the cost and the same result.
The frequency that beats all of this
The channels that win are usually not the ones posting most in any given week. They are the ones still posting in month four. Daily is the right target precisely because it gets you to a readable sample fastest, but it only counts if it survives the fortnight you are busy.
Which is the real argument for automating it. Daily is easy to sustain for eleven days on motivation alone. Making it survive month three means the publishing cannot depend on you remembering.
Common questions
Is posting more than once a day worth it?
Only once you have a format that performs, and only if the posts are spaced apart. Multiple posts published at the same moment compete with each other.
Does posting daily make the algorithm favour you?
Not directly, and this is the part people get wrong. Daily is still the right cadence, but it works because it gives you sample size and more chances at an outlier, not because frequency itself earns you favour. The distinction matters: it tells you to keep posting daily while you learn, and not to assume volume alone will fix a format that is not landing.
What if I cannot post daily?
Then automate it rather than lowering the target. Daily is worth holding onto because it gets you to a readable sample in three weeks instead of three months, and scheduled publishing is what makes it survive the weeks you are busy.
Put this on autopilot
ReelioHub clips your long videos into captioned shorts, then publishes them to YouTube and TikTok on a schedule.
